Scenarios 2025

10. Patrons can move between libraries at school(s), work, and/or home seamlessly, with a consistent online experience

In 2025, education has been transformed. Instead of a majority of students taking courses at one institution, there are now mechanisms that allow students to complete courses and educational experiences from multiple institutions simultaneously. Through competencies based exams, students will receive completion certificates. In order to support such diverse learning, libraries must seamlessly transition students through various levels of access to online resources creating a hybrid between school/public/academic systems. Libraries must work more closely together on resources and services to provide the ultimate learning environment for students.

Main Points:

  1. Students complete coursework from a variety of institutions/methods at the same time
  2. Upper-level credentialing system is needed for patrons to get access
  3. IT departments, libraries, other institutions work closely together to provide and support seamless platforms (building infrastructure)
  4. Communication channels are needed between the various institutions
